Dying Well
Official website for respected palliative care physician and author Ira Byock, M.D. The website includes helpful articles, a study guide for his book Dying Well, and information on organizations working in end-of-life care. In addition to Dying Well, which was released in 1997, Dr. Byock has published a number of other books and essays, many of which are available online.

Finding Our Way: Living with Dying
Companion website for a series of newspaper articles on end of life care and challenges faced by those with terminal illness. Moving personal stories, study guides, comprehensive list of support organizations. One segment deals specifically with violent or sudden death.

Griefnet
Online community supporting those dealing with bereavement and loss. Resources include two websites and nearly 40 mailing lists.

Growth House
Primary website for links and information on end of life issues from a wide variety of sources.

Last Acts
US-based campaign to improve care at the end of life. Among its goals are bringing death related issues out in the open and helping individuals and organizations pursue better ways to care for the dying.

Making your loved one comfortable during the last days of life
Helpful article from the Mayo Clinic clinic that explains how to recognize the signs of an approaching death. The article describes physical and emotional changes the dying person may experience and offers practical advice for family members and caregivers on how to best support patients through the process of dying.

On Our Own Terms
Official site for journalist Bill Moyers' public television special about dying in America, which aired in September 2000. Provides information about the program segments, as well as an excellent list of links to American organizations involved in care for the dying. Also of interest is an interview with Bill Moyers about the series which appeared in the Fall 2000 issue of Modern Maturity.

With Eyes Open
Official website for "With Eyes Open," a companion program to On Our Own Terms designed to spark conversations on dying among viewers. The website provides a wealth of resources including discussion guides, program transcripts, advice from end-of-life care experts, discussion forums, and a comprehensive list of regional and national resources.

Buddhist groups


Amitabha Hospice Service
Informative and helpful information on death and dying from a Buddhist perspective. The service offers home help and companionship to those suffering from life threatening illness in New Zealand.

Zen Hospice Project
Clear, reliable information from this jewel in the caregiving crown. The project was founded in 1987 and provides volunteer services, residential care (in the San Francisco area) and trainings in spiritual care.

Rigpa
Official sites for Rigpa, an international network of meditation groups following the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The spiritual director and founder of Rigpa is Sogyal Rinpoche, who also founded the Spiritual Care Program in 1993. Rigpa websites provide information on meditation courses, retreats, and other activities around the world.
