Compassionate Caregiving Program: A hospital-based educational pilot project
The Compassionate Caregiving Program (CCP) is one of the latest educational projects of Rigpa's Spiritual Care Education Program under development and targeted for completion in 2007. The program is a hospital-based pilot project, sponsored by the Institute of Religion and Health (IRH) and Texas Methodist Hospital of Houston, Texas. The aim of the program is to educate medical staff in the introductory level practices of meditation and compassion to support the self- care of the caregiver and by extension, all those under their professional care. A student manual complete with educational materials and workbook will include readings, reflections and exercises that aid experiential learning of meditation as applied to the skills and tasks of everyday healthcare work. Our hope is that the Compassionate Caregiving Program becomes an educational model for many hospitals in the future throughout the country.
