Dates and Schedule for 2009 Course

January 3- 11, 2009 Residential session at Shambhala Mountain Center in Colorado

Program structure

The training includes two, seven-day residential sessions, interspersed with a fifteen-week online, distance learning course.

Eligibility of participants

While in training, participants are encouraged to demonstrate the practical application of the material and practices in direct care work.Therefore, eligible applicants include professionals currently working in health care and human services with seriously ill or bereaved children as well as adults and students of these professions who are currently engaged in a clinical setting. Volunteers working in end of life care settings will also be considered for admission.

Requirements for Certificate of Completion

  • Attend and participate in all the residential and online sessions
  • Maintain a daily meditation practice
  • Integrate meditation practice in your health care work and keep a journal of insights
  • Design a project or research paper based on a training theme - which may include proposing a way to positively impact the delivery of end-of-life care in your local community or your place of work

Credit and Tuition

Continuing education credit for nurses, social workers, counselors and physicians is available through Naropa University, Rigpa's Spiritual Care Program, and the Institute for Religion and Health. Applicable registration fees will charged for CEUs and CMEs.

Non-Credit: $4,750
For-Credit (graduate credit pending): $5,288
